WHAT WE DO

PDF-Africa is committed to empowering individuals, especially women, young adults and PWDs in Nigeria by focusing on four key objectives that are closely aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Our work is guided by a holistic approach that addresses the multifaceted challenges individuals, especially women and PWDs face, ensuring that our interventions contribute to sustainable and equitable development.

This is achieved through effectual and sustainable strategies, which includes:

  • Functional literacy (SDG 4: Quality Education)
  • Equitable access to quality healthcare (SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being and SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation)
  • Gender equality advocacy (SDG 5: Gender Equality)
  • Financial inclusion (SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth and SDG 10:

We achieve these through Partnerships, collaborations, supports and donations (SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals).

Equitable Access to Quality Healthcare (SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being)

At Preston Development Foundation (PDF-Africa), we are deeply committed to advocating for quality and equitable healthcare services for women and children. We actively engage in advocacy efforts aimed at reforming Nigeria’s healthcare sector and promoting policy changes to ensure access to high-quality healthcare for all. Our initiatives in the health sector include:

  • Advocacy for Healthcare Policy Reforms: PDF-Africa is a member of the Health Sector Reform Coalition (HSRC), where we collaborate with diverse stakeholders to advocate for policy reforms and sustainable health interventions. Through our engagement in the HSRC, we’ve played a pivotal role in establishing critical healthcare initiatives like the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund and the National Health Insurance Scheme.
  • Promoting Equitable Access to Healthcare: PDF-Africa champions efforts to ensure equitable access to healthcare services for women and girls. We advocate for the implementation of policies and programs that address disparities in healthcare access, particularly in underserved communities. Our advocacy initiatives aim to bridge gaps in healthcare delivery and promote inclusive healthcare systems that prioritize the needs of women and children.
  • Advocacy to Policymakers: PDF-Africa has a track record of direct advocacy to policymakers, resulting in significant achievements in health advocacy. We have conducted impactful campaigns to address pressing health issues, such as ending female genital mutilation (FGM) and advocating for equitable vaccine distribution to reduce the number of zero-dose children. Additionally, we advocate for breastfeeding-friendly policies and support for nursing mothers in workplaces, promoting maternal and child health outcomes.
  • Collaboration for Improved Healthcare Delivery: PDF-Africa collaborates with government agencies, civil society organizations, and healthcare providers to enhance healthcare delivery and improve health outcomes. Through strategic partnerships and advocacy efforts, we work towards strengthening health systems, promoting preventive healthcare measures, and advancing maternal and child health services.

By advocating for quality healthcare services and policy reforms, PDF-Africa strives to create a healthcare system responsive to the needs of women and children, ultimately contributing to improved health outcomes and well-being for all.

Functional Literacy (SDG 4: Quality Education)

Education is a fundamental pillar of empowerment at PDF-Africa. Our commitment to promoting education for girls and women is rooted in the belief that education is a powerful tool for social and economic transformation. By investing in education for girls and women, we are not only improving their individual lives but also creating a more equitable and prosperous society for all. Through our programs and initiatives, we aim to break down barriers to education and create opportunities for lifelong learning and growth.

Gender Equality Advocacy (SDG 5: Gender Equality)

Gender equality is a core value of PDF-Africa, and we are dedicated to promoting gender equality and empowering women and girls in all aspects of life. Through our programs and initiatives, we strive to create opportunities for women to thrive in leadership roles, access education and healthcare, and achieve economic independence. Our goal is to break down barriers and create a more inclusive society where everyone has equal rights and opportunities.

Financial Inclusion (SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth & SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities)

Financial inclusion is a key driver of economic empowerment and poverty reduction, and PDF-Africa is committed to expanding access to financial services and opportunities for women. Through our partnerships and initiatives, we aim to equip women with the knowledge and skills they need to make informed financial decisions, manage their resources effectively, and build assets for the future. By providing resources and support, we can help empower women to improve their livelihoods and contribute to overall economic growth.
